Wer kennt Arimaa?

Als Kasparov gegen Deep Blue verlor, erfand ein indisch-amerikanischer Informatiker ein Spiel, von dem er glaubte, dass es für Computer besonders schwer zu beherrschen sei und mit einem Schachsatz spielbar ist. Er lobte 10 Tausend $ für den ersten aus, der ein Programm schriebe, dass in der Lage ist, die besten menschlichen Spieler der Welt zu schlagen. Das Spiel benannte er nach seinem Sohn Aamir - es heißt Arimaa.
Inzwischen sind die Programme gut genug, um Spieler aus den Top 20 gelegentlich zu schlagen, aber die zwei besten Spieler, der Franzose Daligault und der US-Amerikaner Juhnke sind meiner Meinung nach noch weit weg. Letzterer schrieb auch das erste und bisher einzige Buch über das Spiel.
Das Spiel ist sehr strategisch angelegt und man lernt die Motive schnell, zum Beispiel, dass man auch mal ein paar Figuren opfern kann, wenn man schon grob sieht, wie man mit einem Hasen durchbrechen kann.
Ich spiele Arimaa ganz gern und bin auf der Bot-Leiter auch schon etwas emporgeklettert.
Man sieht sich auf arimaa.com, wo man auch Online spielen kann.
Wenn es hier ein wenig Resonanz zu dem Thema gibt, werde ich auch mal ein Screenshot bringen.

Can chess skill predict Arimaa skill?

The #1 Arimaa player is that Jean Daligualt, but the #2 Arimaa player is a different Karl Juhnke, namely me. My chess rating is only USCF 1552. Part of the reason I go by "Fritz" is to avoid confusion with the real Karl Juhnke. :-p

Hi fritzlein,
and welcome to Lossos Chessblog.
In my blog I presented Arimaa as a strategic board game. I wrote that the humans are still beating the computers at least as far as the first two human players in the world are concerned.
Chess and Arimaa have not a lot in common but I think that chess players are used to calculating moves which certainly helps when playing Arimaa.
I heard that you have written a book about Arimaa and I am probably going to order it soon. Until then I try to take the steps at the Bot Ladder.
Bots seem to be good as far as capturing and freezing pieces is concerned but they often capture pieces when it would have been more important to have control over the traps or to block a rabbit.
P.S. I think Karl Juhnke is a name that probably have some hundred Germans. Its not surprising that one of them is a strong chess player.
